Uttarakhand: The family of a merchant navy sailor has sought help from the Uttarakhand government after he went ‘missing’ from a ship en route to a port in Turkey. Ankit Saklani’s wife Pinky told ANI that her husband worked with Mumbai-based company Alvis Ship Management and had joined the company on December 1 and has been missing since December 18. “My husband joined on December 1st. He has over 15 years of sailing experience. He first contacted Alvis Ship Company and joined them. His ship was scheduled to arrive at a port in Turkey on December 18th, But even before that my husband started sending me ‘strange messages’. 10 days from the date of joining were normal, but later he started sending me messages that he was upset and wanted to return. On 11th December. He messaged me that if anything happened to him, the company would be responsible,” said Pinky Saklani.
The victim’s wife was associated with Alvis Ship Management Company.
She said, “In this regard, I contacted the Mumbai-based firm. Two agents of the company, one Dinesh Jaiswal and a woman who had recruited them, told me that the ship is still on the way and hence, my husband’s signoff It is possible.” This will be done only after the ship reaches the Turkish port on December 18.” “I was relieved thinking that they would get the signoff on December 18. But, the same day at 5 pm I got a call from the company that my husband jumped off the ship just before it reached the port,” she told ANI.
The victim’s brother believes that foul play was involved.
Meanwhile, Ankit’s brother, fearing foul play, has written a letter to Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami demanding an investigation into the matter. Pinky has alleged that the company is treating the incident as a suicide and has stopped responding to the family.

“The company is distancing itself and calling it a suicide. The incident happened at 11 am and they informed me at 5 am that day when the ship was about to reach the port and my husband was about to get the signoff. Something is suspected missing.
