VCK party planning to spread its influence beyond Dalit community
Chennai (IANS). The Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), a party of Dalit politics in Tamil Nadu, is planning to spread its influence beyond the Dalit community. The party has four MLAs and two MPs.
To give a new shape to its identity, the party has given the post of district secretary to people from other communities. The party has appointed 17 non-Dalits as district secretaries out of 144 party district secretaries.
For effective functioning, many political parties have divided geographical districts according to convenience.
The VCK has also appointed a Muslim leader as the zonal secretary in charge of Krishnagiri and Dharmapuri districts of the state. However, the party leadership said that the VCK has always focused on humanity and does not aim to work for any particular community.
However, social scientist and researcher R Kumudam, speaking to IANS, said, “It is actually a Dalit political party, but to spread its wings in the dirty politics of Tamil Nadu, where caste and other factors dominate politics, the VCK Will have to renew itself to cater to the fiery socio-political groups.
He further said that the VCK could expand to other sections of society while retaining its Dalit identity, and has cleverly ingratiated itself with other social groups, especially Muslims.
The VCK is part of the India Front and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Working closely with Stalin. The party is also trying to reach out to other social, religious and political groups while retaining its Dalit identity.
