Violence is happening in Bengal under Mamta’s rule – BJP

New Delhi (IANS) | The BJP has blamed West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for the violence in connection with the panchayat elections, saying that under her patronage violence is taking place in the state. The public will teach a lesson to TMC in the same way as it was taught to the Communist parties. Talking to reporters at the BJP national headquarters, national spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi claimed to have a list of 25 to 30 incidents of murderous attacks on party workers during the panchayat elections. He said that the way the West Bengal government and police are behaving is a very dark chapter in the democratic and electoral history of India.

Questioning the role of the State Election Commission, he said that on the last day of nomination, more than 40,000 TMC leaders filed nominations in 341 blocks of West Bengal. Apart from this, workers of Left parties, Congress and BJP also filed nominations. That is, on an average the time taken for checking the nomination of a person was 2 minutes. Whereas, it is not possible to check the nomination papers in 2 minutes. Nominations done at this pace show how the TMC government has taken the system into its own hands.

Trivedi reminded Mamata Banerjee of her struggle and said that she herself had fought against the violence of the communist government and the BJP had supported her at that time. Today the Mamta Banerjee government has become an oppressive government. But, in a democracy, the public is the master. The public had taught a lesson to the communist government as well and the public will teach a lesson to the TMC as well.

Sudhanshu Trivedi also targeted the opposition parties for standing with Mamata Banerjee at the national level and accusing the Modi government of destroying democracy. He asked the question that the form of democracy injured by violence is visible in West Bengal today, Mamta Banerjee, who used to talk about ‘Maa, Mati, Manus’, today in her era forces are rising against Mother India in Bengal. The soil is drenched in blood and humanity looks completely distressed and tarnished. Are these opposition parties not seeing any problem regarding democracy even after seeing this situation?

Condemning the violence taking place during the panchayat elections, he also asked both Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and the State Election Commission to fulfill their constitutional obligations ethically. He said that despite hatred, violence and deadly attacks, more than 50,000 BJP workers have nominated themselves for the panchayat elections. Despite tolerating all the oppression and excesses, BJP workers are moving ahead for the fight for democracy.
