Voting in Tamil Nadu tomorrow: 1.47 lakh police personnel on security duty
Tamil Nadu: 1.47 lakh police personnel are involved in security operations for the assembly elections to be held on Thursday (April 23).
Tamil Nadu has 5.73 crore voters. 75,032 polling booths have been set up across the state for them to cast their votes on April 23. Of these, 5,938 polling booths in 3,022 locations are sensitive. Armed paramilitary forces and the Tamil Nadu Special Police Force are engaged in security at sensitive polling booths. On polling day, approximately 1.47 lakh personnel from police, paramilitary forces, fire brigade, forest department, prison department, retired army personnel, police, and village guards will be involved in security operations. Approximately 23,000 paramilitary personnel from 295 companies have arrived in Tamil Nadu for security operations. This includes 26,203 police inspectors, assistant inspectors, special assistant inspectors, 94,598 head constables, and constables. Similarly, 12,150 Special Task Force personnel will be involved in security operations. Excluding Chennai, Avadi, and Tambaram police stations, 1.17 lakh police personnel will be involved in security operations across 38 districts and 7 metropolitan police stations.
6,300 Sensitive Areas: Approximately 20,000 paramilitary personnel, police personnel, retired soldiers, retired police personnel, and retired forest guards have been deployed for election security.
On polling day, Task Force personnel will patrol the entire state in 514 vehicles. If any problem arises in any area, they will arrive and ensure that there are no law and order problems. Similarly, 1,100 Rapid Action Force vehicles will be deployed, along with Deputy Superintendents of Police, Additional Deputy Superintendents of Police, Superintendents of Police, DIGs, IGs, and City Police Commissioners. 6,300 areas in the state are considered tense, so additional security arrangements have been made there. More police personnel have been deployed for security in the 118 constituencies identified as having high cash flow. Under the leadership of Tamil Nadu Director General of Police Sandeep Ray Rathore, security arrangements have been made across the state for the elections.
