Water from Khudiya reservoir will reach three cities for drinking water
Raipur. Under Mission Amrit 2.0, water from Khudiya reservoir will be supplied for drinking water in three cities Lormi, Mungeli and Takhatpur. The State Urban Development Agency (SUDA) of the Urban Administration and Development Department has approved Rs 202 crore 84 lakh for this. This will be the first such scheme in Chhattisgarh in which pure drinking water will be supplied to three urban bodies simultaneously. A total of 17 thousand families of all three cities will get its benefit.
This much awaited demand of the people of the area is being fulfilled on the initiative of Deputy Chief Minister and Urban Administration and Development Minister Arun Saw. On his instructions, SUDA has approved this scheme under Mission Amrit 2.0 of the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs for raw water for Lormi, Mungeli and Takhatpur and water purification and distribution system for Lormi city. With this scheme, 24×7 pure drinking water will be supplied to the citizens of Lormi Municipality. To make the scheme a reality, a detailed and massive survey has been done in the entire city by the Water Supply Survey Expert Agency. Deputy Chief Minister Arun Saw said that the people of Lormi, Mungeli and Takhatpur had a very old demand that the availability of pure drinking water should be ensured for their city. Their years old demand is going to be fulfilled with this scheme. Pure drinking water is the right of every citizen. It is also the responsibility of urban bodies to provide it. This scheme has been approved under Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s ambitious scheme Mission Amrit 2.0. He expressed hope that this scheme will prove to be a milestone for Lormi city. Along with this, the problem of drinking water supply will also end in Mungeli and Takhatpur.
Deputy Chief Minister Saw told about the scheme that a 75 km pipeline will be laid to provide raw water to Lormi, Mungeli and Takhatpur from Khudiya reservoir. A water purification plant of 8.5 MLD capacity will be set up for drinking water supply in Lormi. Eight kilometers of pipeline will be laid to provide pure drinking water in Lormi city. Also, 80 kilometers of distribution line will be laid to provide tap water to every house. Three new high level reservoirs will also be constructed under the scheme.
To supply water to Lormi, Mungeli and Takhatpur cities, water will be brought from Khudiya reservoir of Lormi development block through a pump to Karidongri, three kilometers away from the reservoir, where the water will be collected in the constructed reservoir. From the reservoir, water will travel a total distance of 70 kilometers through gravity system and reach Lormi, Mungeli and Takhatpur, from where drinking water will be supplied. No machinery of any kind will be used in this system. This will save the expenditure on purchase of machines and other equipment, electricity bill and maintenance of machines. To ensure water supply in all three cities, the drinking water system will be monitored through the state-of-the-art SCODA method.
