West Bengal: Man cuts wife into six pieces over property dispute

Bengal: In a tragic incident, a 55-year-old supplier of construction materials in Bengal Occidental’s Madhyamgram cut his wife into six pieces, packed the body parts in a jute bag and threw them in a canal.
To cover up his actions, he filed a missing complaint with the police and claimed that his wife had gone missing. However, her daughter became suspicious when she saw blood stains on her mother’s lost cell phone. According to a Times of India report, when the man encountered his daughter the next day, he attempted suicide by consuming poison.

After being admitted to the hospital, the man confessed to the crime during police interrogation. Later, the police recovered Canal’s mutilated body parts and arrested the culprit, Nooruddin Mandal. Initially, when Mandal lodged a missing complaint, the police became suspicious due to inconsistencies in her declarations. According to the publication, the situation worsened when Mandal’s daughter filed a complaint of kidnapping and that she intended to commit suicide.

During additional interrogation, Mandal confessed to shooting his wife, dismembering her body and throwing her body parts in a canal. Police suspect that the reason for the murder is property dispute. Family members told police that Mandal was pressurizing his wife Saira Banu to transfer his property to a piece of land. Mandal’s daughter Mani Bibi said that her mother lost her life when she refused to meet her father’s demands.

Neighbors expressed surprise and disbelief as they had no reason to suspect Mandal. He had actively participated in the search for his missing wife and had behaved normally in the days following the crime. Police are waiting for Mandal’s complete recovery before carrying out further inquiries. The recovered body parts were sent for post-mortem and DNA samples were preserved as evidence.
