WhatsApp launches new feature to protect sensitive chats
New Delhi: Meta-owned WhatsApp on Thursday launched the Secret Code feature for millions of users, an additional way to secure sensitive chats on its platform.
With a secret code, users will be able to set a unique password different from the password they use to unlock their phone to give their locked chats an extra layer of privacy.
“Secret code for chat lock is being released on WhatsApp so that you can protect your chats with a unique password. Mark Zuckerberg, founder and CEO of Meta, said on his WhatsApp channel that you can now set your locked chats to appear only when you type the secret code in the search bar, so no one inadvertently accesses your most Can’t search private conversations.
You will have the option to hide locked chat folders from your chatlist so that they can only be searched by typing your secret code in the search bar.
“If they don’t fit your needs, you can still choose to display them in your chatlist. Whenever a new chat comes up that you want to lock, you can now long press to lock it instead of going to the chat’s settings,” the company said in a statement.
This move will make it harder to detect during a chat if someone has access to your phone or if you share the phone with someone else.
Earlier this year, WhatsApp launched Chat Lock to help people protect their more sensitive conversations.
“We’re thrilled that our community is loving Chat Lock, and hope the secret code will make it even more useful for them. The secret code is rolling out starting today, and will be available globally in the coming months,” the company said.
