Why doesn’t anyone ask about Jadeja: Rohit Sharma

Mumbai (IANS). Indian skipper Rohit Sharma has termed his and senior batsman Virat Kohli’s absence from the white-ball series against the West Indies as workload management.

Team India, which went on West Indies tour, remains in constant discussion. However, the reason for this is not his brilliant game but the experiment regarding team combination. Seniors like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are missing from the limited overs series against West Indies.

In their place, young players and backup players are being tried continuously for the Asia Cup as well as the World Cup.

Rohit Sharma played the first ODI but missed the next two matches and then the T20I series in the West Indies.

With his ‘rest’, Hardik Pandya led the team in the next two ODIs of the series, which India won 2–1, and is currently captaining the team in the five-match T20I series against the Men in Blue. Trailing 2-1.

Rohit has now opened up on it and said that his absence from the series was part of a strategy as he had done the same before the T20 World Cup in 2022.

Rohit said they sat out the white-ball series as they wanted to give opportunities to young players in T20s and both of them haven’t played the T20 format since last year’s T20 World Cup in Australia.

“Last year also we did the same. That year was the T20 World Cup, so we didn’t play ODI cricket. Rohit said, “Even now we are doing the same, ODI is the World Cup, so we are not playing T20.”

Rohit also slammed the media for questioning his absence and pointed out that spinner Ravindra Jadeja is also not playing the T20I series against the West Indies.

Rohit said, “You cannot prepare for the World Cup by playing every match. We took this decision two years ago. Ravindra Jadeja is also not playing T20, you didn’t ask about him?

“It’s the year of the World Cup, we want to keep everyone fresh, we already have so many injuries in our team, now that’s what scares me the most.”

He claimed that the Indian team management has taken up the matter with the BCCI.

“We also discussed with the BCCI that we need to take good care of the players. Whenever we get a chance to rest players, we will rest players and rotate them. We don’t want any player to miss out on any important events.”

Rohit said, “Some of our key players have missed some big events in the last two years and now we do not want that.”
