Widow accuses sister-in-law and mother-in-law of forced conversion, case registered

Durg. A case of forceful conversion has come to the fore in Mohan Nagar police station area of the district. A woman named Annapurna Soni, a resident of Shankar Nagar, told the police that her sister-in-law had converted to Islam. Now sister-in-law and mother-in-law together are pressurizing her to convert to Islam. If he does not do so, he and his son are threatening to be evicted from the house. Mohan Nagar police is calling it a property dispute.

Annapurna Soni, a resident of Shankar Nagar, has lodged a complaint at the Mohan Nagar police station. Her husband has passed away two months back. He, his son and mother-in-law live in the house. Her sister-in-law has married a Muslim boy. Since then she has been persuading her sisters and mother to convert to Islam. Annapurna alleges that when she refused to convert, her mother-in-law and sister-in-law together locked her and her son in a room. After this they are threatening to throw him out of the house. The woman says that earlier the same pressure was being made on her husband as well. After his death, pressure is being put on his son and him.

As soon as the information about forceful conversion was received, a large number of people of the locality and some lawyers reached the Mohan Nagar police station. They created a lot of ruckus in the police station. They alleged that the police was under pressure from the accused. The police first recorded the statement of the complainant woman and her son. In the meanwhile, when someone’s call came, the scribe, who was there to take the statement, tore the statement. After this TI Vipin Rangari said that he had made that call that the matter was serious. He himself will investigate the matter and record the statement.
