Women of self-help groups are changing their destinies by improving their living standards

Raipur: Chhattisgarh Government’s Rural Industrial Park (RIPA) scheme is proving to be a boon for the rural areas of the state, bringing major positive changes in the lives of the villagers. With the development of gauthans as Rural Industrial Parks, villages are transforming into well-functioning production centers. This is the story of a women group in the rural areas of Mahasamund who are working hard to achieve social and economic progress. They have joined self-help groups under the Bihan Yojana and are using various livelihood activities as a source of employment. The Sua Women Self-Help Group, formed by the women of Gram Panchayat Sher, manufactures different types of fencing mesh wire used in fields, barns, and orchards. Women associated with the Bihan Yojana are using various livelihood activities as a means of employment and are contributing to uplift the community.

The Sua Women’s Self-Help Group, consisting of 11 women in the village, has manufactured 2000 bundles of fencing mesh wire. They have earned approximately Rs 6 lakh by selling it to both government and non-government institutions. The group’s president, Mrs. Divya Nayak, stated that she used to work for someone else before joining the group two years ago. However, she was inspired to join the Bihan group and discover how women can become self-reliant and start their own businesses. After the formation of the group, the RF amount of Rs. 15000 was provided as a grant and a loan of Rs. 2 lakh. They learned the process of manufacturing fencing wire mesh from others and started their own work. The group members used the amount received to purchase machines and materials required for the work. She further added that the Bihaan Yojana’s support has made them self-reliant today.
