Workshop organized on preventing sexual harassment at workplace
Punjab: A training program to prevent sexual harassment at the workplace has been organized at the Municipal Corporation office here.
The training program was organized under the Punjab Municipal Services Improvement Project in collaboration with the World Bank in which officials and employees of various departments of the Municipal Corporation, officials of Amritsar Bulk Water Supply Project and employees of Larsen & Toubro (L&T) Company participated.
Kuldeep Singh Saini, Manager, Amritsar Bulk Water Supply Project, said that the main objective of the training program was to enhance the working capacity of MC employees, create awareness about the laws applicable at workplace and construction works and provide information about redressal of complaints on MCeva portal. Health and safety expert Dr Monica Sabharwal said around 1.70 crore accidents occur every year at construction sites in India, of which 45,000 accidents were fatal. “But by adopting necessary precautions and following rules, such accidents can be reduced by 98%.”
Usha Kapoor said that working women should be informed about their rights. “Because women are often unable to report sexual harassment at workplaces due to lack of information and social pressure.”
Earlier, MC Commissioner Harpreet Singh said training sessions were planned to prevent sexual harassment, follow health and safety standards in construction works and redress public grievances in an effective manner.
