Yasangi paddy cultivation area will increase in Medak
Medak: With rising water masses and a significant rise in freezing levels due to good rainfall throughout the year, district agriculture officials have drawn up an action plan for Yasangi, hoping to increase the area devoted to rice cultivation. 26,000 acres more than the previous season of Yasangi. Yasangi in Medak district, farmers had cultivated rice in 2,60 lakh acres during 2022-23. District agriculture officials estimate that rice cultivation in Yasangi will cross 2,86 lakh acres by 2023-24. Additionally, the total cultivable area may increase to 3.06 lakh acres from 2.78 lakh acres last year. Minor irrigation tanks located at Project Singur, Ghanpur Anicut, Halid Wagu, Control Press and throughout Medak district were filled, while the cold level had also improved significantly. Apart from rice, farmers in Medak grow sorghum, maize, vegetables and other crops. The surface devoted to these crops may also increase again this year compared to last year. The area devoted to jowar cultivation is expected to increase from 6,000 acres to 6,600 acres, while the area devoted to horticulture cultivation is expected to increase from 4,823 acres to 5,305 acres. The estimated area devoted to rice cultivation may reduce by 14,000 acres from vanakalam rice cultivation in 2023. On completion of Vanakalam rice harvest, rice farmers had started rice fields in various places of the district. In a statement to Telangana Today, District Agriculture Officer, M Govindu, said instructions have been issued to agricultural extension officers (OEAs) to visit the area and collect accurate details of the crop.
