YSR Congress will participate in the inauguration of the new Parliament House

Amaravati (IANS) | Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy-led YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) will not join the opposition parties in boycotting the inauguration of the new Parliament building. YSRCP sources confirmed that party MPs would attend the inauguration ceremony. YSRCP parliamentary party leader V. Vijayasai Reddy and party MPs will attend the inauguration ceremony of the new Parliament House by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on May 28.

Vijaysai Reddy has already welcomed the inauguration. The new building is a reflection of an India that is modern, self-reliant and proud, he tweeted. After all, we have a building that has been built to serve as the Parliament of a democratic country.

YSRCP’s decision to attend the inauguration is not surprising, as the party enjoyed cordial relations with the BJP-led government at the Centre.

Ever since the YSRCP came to power in the state four years ago, it has maintained friendly relations with the Modi government. It provided significant support in the passage of major bills in the Parliament.

It also supported important bills like criminalizing triple talaq and abrogation of Article 370 that gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir. Jagan’s party also supported the NDA government on three controversial agricultural laws.

The YSRCP supported NDA candidates in the presidential and vice-presidential elections in both 2017 and 2022.

YSRCP has never been a part of any effort by opposition parties to corner the Modi government on important issues.

Political analysts see this as a compulsion of the Jagan Mohan Reddy-led party’s main opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP), which is keen to revive its alliance with the BJP.
