Zaheerabad: Shetkar avenged his 10-year-old defeat by defeating old rival Patil

Sangareddy: Congress has won the Zaheerabad Lok Sabha seat again after losing it to BRS twice in a row. The seat was formed in 2009 after the reorganisation of constituencies in the state. Congress candidate Suresh Shetkar won the first election in 2009. However, BRS fielded BB Patil in the next two elections and won twice. Patil defeated Suresh Shetkar in 2014, while in 2019 Congress could not escape defeat although it changed its candidate and fielded K Madan Mohan Rao.

Adilabad has now become a BJP stronghold in Telangana. This time BRS fielded Gali Anil Kumar after Patil joined BJP before the elections, but he finished third. Suresh Shetkar won from Zaheerabad for the second time after a gap of 10 years and defeated Patil by over 46,000 votes. This is being seen as Shetkar’s revenge for the defeat he suffered at the hands of Patil in 2014.
