10th class student became district commissioner for a day
Guwahati (IANS). A Class 10 student in Assam’s Sivasagar town became the District Commissioner (DC) for a day under the state education department’s innovative initiative ‘Aarohan’.
Bhagyadeep Rajgarh, a 16-year-old student studying at Bokota Borbam High School, was selected to perform the duties on Monday. Sivasagar DC Aditya Vikram Yadav went to Bhagyadeep’s house on Monday morning and brought him to his office in the city. The student participated in the day-long meetings of the district administration.
DC Yadav said, “We want to motivate the students to work hard to enroll in professional courses and get jobs in various fields like doctor, engineer, civil service.”
He described Bhagyadeep as a brilliant student who is working hard despite many challenges in life.
The student said, his ambition is to work as an administrative officer. The student said, “I very much appreciate this opportunity to serve as the District Commissioner for a day as it gave me an early exposure to the way different departments operate.”
In the administrative meeting, Bhagyadeep asked the officials to work on the road in his village and also fixed a time frame to complete the work.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted on Tuesday, “Bhagyadeep, keep working hard and you can also become the Chief Secretary of Assam. Through Project ‘Aarohan’, we mentor students from tea gardens and other underprivileged communities to take successful career paths.
Aarohan initiative finds talented students from remote poor families. It aims to guide and monitor the academic career of these students.
