Uproar over appointments and transfers at MIC meeting; BMC approves ₹200 crore green bond plan

Madhya Pradesh: The Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC)’s MIC meeting on Friday erupted in chaos as members objected to the appointment and transfer orders issued by the civic body and demanded greater transparency from the administration.
The meeting, chaired by Mayor Malti Rai, later discussed four key proposals. Amid heated debate, the MIC approved a major financial decision to raise funds for projects under the AMRUT 2.0 scheme through green municipal bonds. The council decided that the Bhopal Municipal Corporation will invest ₹200 crore in green municipal bonds. This decision will provide the corporation with a ₹20 crore subsidy from the central government, strengthening the BMC’s financial position.
Another proposal to cancel the tender for a residential-cum-commercial high-rise project on plot numbers 47 and 49 under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana was also discussed. After careful consideration, MIC decided to put the proposal on hold for the time being.
