Glenn Maxwell suffers arm injury, out of Melbourne Stars’ next match against Perth Scorchers

Melbourne Stars captain Glenn Maxwell has been ruled out of Wednesday’s match against Perth Scorchers due to injury. Maxwell suffered an arm injury while batting against Brisbane Heat in the opening match of Big Bash League (BBL) Season 13. Despite Maxwell scoring 23 runs off 14 balls, the Stars lost by 103 runs.

“Maxwell suffered the injury while batting against the Brisbane Heat on Thursday night and will begin his rehabilitation immediately,” the Melbourne Stars said in a statement released on Friday.

“Nathan Coulter-Nile will have a scan this weekend to rule out further damage to the calf injury he sustained while bowling against Brisbane Heat. “The club will provide a further update ahead of the clash against the Scorchers on Wednesday.”

Glenn Maxwell received medical attention twice during the game against the Heat, with his forearm wrapped, and was later shown iceing up in the dugout after being dismissed at the Gabba. Marcus Stoinis will have to carry more of the burden as the opening batsman in Maxwell’s absence as the Stars will be without a key spin-bowling option.

The Stars will be hoping Glenn Maxwell has enough time to recover and he will miss just one game, playing against Sydney Thunder at Albury on December 23, followed by Wednesday’s match against the Scorchers at the MCG, followed by 10 There will be a day break.
