Bharatiya Janata Party conducts statewide agitation condemning women oppression in Karnataka
The BJP in Karnataka on Saturday held a statewide agitation at the district headquarters against the Congress government’s alleged apathy in providing help to a tribal woman who was assaulted and naked parade in Belagavi.
The woman was also tied to a pillar after her son eloped with a girl from the same community in Belagavi’s Vantamuri village on December 11.
Police have arrested eight people, while eight others are absconding.
Speaking to reporters, BJP state president BY Vijayendra said the state government had failed to arrest the eight absconding accused. Moreover, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah did not visit the victim and console her.
The party staged a protest in Bengaluru and later demanded arrest.
Meanwhile, in Belagavi, the BJP’s investigation team, comprising five members and four MPs, met party leaders and spoke to survivors and officials.
Later, speaking to reporters, Locket Chatterjee, one of the team members, said that the administration did not take the matter seriously initially.
The police were not ready to register the case. He said that the government came into action only after the order of the Karnataka High Court.
