Jalandhar: Parole jumper trapped in police net after 20 years
Punjab: Police have arrested a parole jumper, who was absconding for the last two decades. The suspect has been identified as Bhupinder Lal, a resident of Lakhanpal village here. According to the information, a case has been registered against Bhupinder under Section 15 of the NDPS Act. After being convicted, he was sentenced to prison. Police Commissioner Swapan Sharma said that he was granted parole while serving his sentence. He was scheduled to return to prison on August 4, 2005. However, he failed to return, following which another case was registered against him under the Punjab Good Conduct Prisoners Temporary Release Act. “A police party from Sadar police station chased Bhupinder and eventually arrested him from Langot Chak Drav Khan village of Kathua Sadar police station in Jammu and Kashmir on March 25,” he said. CP Sharma said that five cases were already registered against him under various sections in different police stations of Jalandhar and Kapurthala. Further investigation was ongoing in the case.
