Telangana: High-speed rail plan ready to make Hyderabad a transit hub

Hyderabad: Telangana’s railway infrastructure is undergoing a major transformation, with record investments to strengthen connectivity, boost regional economies, and support long-term industrial growth. The average annual railway budget allocation for the state has sharply increased to ₹5,454 crore for 2026-27, compared to ₹886 crore before 2014, when Telangana was part of undivided Andhra Pradesh.

The increased funding has enabled rapid expansion of rail infrastructure across the state. Since 2014, more than 900 kilometers of new railway lines have been built, while 1,115 kilometers have been electrified, giving Telangana a 100 percent electrified railway network.

New line projects connecting Peddapalli-Nizamabad, Jaggayyapeta-Janapahad, Akkanpet-Medak, and Bhadrachalam Road-Sattupally have improved access to remote areas, directly supporting local trade, agriculture, and employment generation.

Significant investments are also being made in capacity expansion and manufacturing. The ₹521 crore railway manufacturing unit in Kazipet, which is nearing completion, is expected to generate skilled employment and support rolling stock production, strengthening Telangana’s industrial ecosystem.
