Uproar in Maharashtra Legislature over obscene video related to BJP leader, government orders inquiry
Mumbai (IANS). An alleged obscene video created a ruckus in the Maharashtra Legislature on Tuesday, showing a senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and former MP in objectionable positions with some unidentified women.
The video is reportedly playing in separate clips of several hours. This video was aired by a new Marathi channel, in which BJP leader Kirit Somaiya is seen. Somaiya, a chartered accountant, is a former MP from Mumbai.
As soon as the video went viral, 69-year-old Somaiya attempted ‘damage control’ by writing a suo motu letter to Mumbai Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, refuting the content purportedly featuring him and asking for an investigation into the video. was demanded.
Somaiya said, “A video clip of me was shown on a news channel. It is claimed that I have harassed many women and many such video clips are available and complaints have been received against me, but I have never molested any woman.” Haven’t misbehaved.”
He urged both Phansalkar and Fadnavis to order an inquiry into the allegations and verify the authenticity of the video clip.
Taking cognizance, Fadnavis ordered a high-level inquiry into the video, which has sent shockwaves in BJP circles. Somaiya is famous for making ‘revelations’ against opposition parties and their leaders.
The issue heated up in the Legislature with allies of the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi, Shiv Sena (UBT), Nationalist Congress Party and Congress trying to corner the ruling Shiv Sena-BJP-NCP (Ajit Pawar faction).
Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council (UBT) Ambadas Danve said it was much more and vowed to prepare a pen-drive of Somaiya’s alleged exploits with some women.
His party colleagues Anil Parab, Anil Deshmukh – both who were Somaiya’s targets – also demanded a thorough probe into the video clip.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Mumbai president Preeti Sharma-Menon said the Somaiya video episode shows that the Maharashtra BJP is “truly the most corrupt party” and that such disgusting unethical people act as “people’s representatives” in the state.
