DCW issues notice to police in acid attack case on woman
New Delhi (IANS). Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) Chairperson Swati Maliwal has issued a notice to the police in the acid attack case on a woman in Delhi. The woman was attacked with acid by her mother-in-law.
According to a DCW official, a woman told the commission in her complaint that she was married two years ago and has a six-month-old daughter.
The woman said in her complaint that her husband and in-laws started harassing her only after 2-3 months of marriage. The woman alleges that on March 7, 2022, her husband assaulted her, due to which she miscarried her two-and-a-half month pregnancy.
The officer further said that she also said that her husband and in-laws had been harassing her mentally and physically for years. The woman alleges that her husband beat her and their daughter several times.
He has told that on September 20, 2023, his mother-in-law had thrown acid on him. An FIR has been registered in this regard at New Osmanpur police station.
The DCW chief has issued a notice to Delhi Police seeking an action taken report in the case and a copy of the FIR lodged along with details of the arrests made. The commission has also asked Delhi Police how the woman’s mother-in-law purchased the acid and what action was taken against those responsible for selling it to her.
Swati Maliwal further said, “We have received a complaint of acid attack on a woman by her mother-in-law. The accused should be arrested immediately and strict action should be taken against him. Apart from this, the police should also investigate how the accused purchased the acid. Strict action should also be taken against the person responsible for selling the acid.
