Before the World Cup, Rashid Khan targeted Shafiq Stanikzai
New Delhi (IANS). Ahead of the World Cup, Afghanistan’s leading leg spinner Rashid Khan has attacked former Afghanistan Cricket Board chief executive Shafiq Stanikzai over ‘past agreements’.
On social media platform ‘X’, Rashid asked Stanikzai to stop spreading misinformation about the team, and also claimed that Afghanistan has the fittest and best team ever for the World Cup to be held in India from October 5. Is.
Rashid Khan wrote, “I think our team is one of the best and fittest teams of any mega event so far. I believe that this time we can perform the best.
The team made many agreements during your management. Your selected team had to lose many matches in the last World Cup. It would be better to support more team players instead of spreading misinformation.”
Stanikzai was the chief executive of ACB from 2014-2019 and also founded the T20 franchise tournament named ‘Afghanistan Premier League’.
Shafiq Stanikzai responded by denying this allegation of Rashid Khan. “My dear Champion, this tweet of yours has blown me away quite a bit. It seems so different from anything you’ve said before,” he wrote on Twitter.
Do you remember your previous tweet where you appreciated me dedicating the win to my contribution to ACB after my tenure?
“Initially, I had no intention of replying to your tweet, I thought I would save it for our next meeting. However, when you have falsely accused me I can no longer hold back.”
Stanikzai told what was done during his tenure in ACB.
- I prepared the squad for the 2016 T20 World Cup, where Afghanistan won four matches, including a win against defending champions West Indies.
- I groomed my Under-19 team, which won the Asia Cup and reached the World Cup semi-finals.
- The credit for the success of every Afghan player recognized as a Test cricketer goes to my dedication.
- Domestic cricketers who hold the title of first-class cricketers are the product of my management and agreements.
- Your and Nabi’s IPL selection was the result of my management.
- The presence of 14 standard cricket stadiums in Afghanistan is a testament to my management.
Concluding his speech, Stanikzai said that I have not criticized Afghanistan or Rashid. I still clearly remember our last phone conversation, your words of praise for me and concerns about the current system. Please understand, I have not criticized you or the team.
“My champion, your tweet disappointed me, but rest assured I still respect you very much and am very proud of you and the entire team,” he wrote.
Afghanistan will begin their World Cup campaign against Bangladesh on October 7 at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala.
