Cauvery dispute: Kannada workers will protest at Jantar Mantar
Bengaluru (IANS). Kannada organizations led by Karnataka Rakshana Vedike on Monday called for ‘Delhi Chalo’ program condemning the release of Cauvery river water to Tamil Nadu. The workers will stage a protest at Jantar Mantar on 18 October.
The workers will arrive in New Delhi on Tuesday by train and flight, with Karnataka Rakshana Vedike president Narayana Gowda joining them from Bengaluru.
Delhi Kannada Sangh will join Kannada activists at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi. Activists have also sought time from Prime Minister Narendra Modi to intervene in the Cauvery dispute.
Sources said Narayana Gowda and Delhi Kannada Sangh president Nagaraj will meet Modi on October 18.
He will also meet Union Coal, Mines and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi.
The Cauvery Water Management Authority had ordered Karnataka to release 3,000 cusecs of water for 15 days, despite appeals that the drinking water supply in the state, especially in Bengaluru city, would be severely affected during summer.
