Police detained Telangana Congress chief in Hyderabad
Hyderabad. Police in Hyderabad on Tuesday arrested Telangana Congress chief A. Revanth Reddy has been detained. Reddy Chief Minister K. They had reached the Martyrs Memorial to challenge Chandrashekhar Rao to take an oath that he would not use money and liquor to woo voters in next month’s assembly elections.
The Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president along with his supporters reached the Telangana Martyrs Memorial at Gun Park near the Assembly building to take the pledge.
The police stopped Revanth Reddy and others from gathering there and said there was no permission for it. Congress leaders objected to the police action. This sparked debate. Tension rose in the area as Congress leaders resisted police attempts to stop them.
Many leaders and workers, including former MP Anjan Kumar Yadav, sat on the road in protest against the police action. They were caught and taken away in police vehicles. Police have also detained Revanth Reddy. He was taken in a police vehicle and later dropped at the party headquarters at Gandhi Bhawan.
Revanth Reddy had on Sunday challenged KCR to come to the Martyrs’ Memorial on October 17 and make him take an oath that he would not use money or liquor in elections to woo voters.
The TPCC chief reacted strongly to the ruling Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS)’s allegations that the Congress party was sending money from Karnataka to Telangana for distribution among voters. (IANS)
