Bardhan told that it is believed that on this day Durga Mata comes back to earth as the nurse of the world. It is believed that Jagaddhatri is an incarnation of Mother Durga. It has arisen from Tantra. This mother is in sattva form along with Kali and Durga. They are considered symbols of Rajas and Tamas. According to Shri Bardhan, if we look at its history, this puja first started in the year 1750 from Chandan Nagar in West Bengal. Indranarayan Chaudhary was the first to perform Jagaddhatri puja in his home. It is said that this festival was started by the wife of Ramakrishna Paramahamsa, the founder of Ramakrishna Mission.
His wife strongly believed in reincarnation and said that on this day the mother comes back to earth to destroy the evil ones and give happiness. Gradually this puja started being performed in other states including West Bengal, Bihar, Orissa. Even in Chhattisgarh, Jagaddhatri Puja has been started by the Bengali community.
