Apple wants $50 million deal with news publishers to power its GenAI model: Report

San Francisco: Apple has been in touch with some top news publishers to use their articles to help train its generative AI systems, media reported.

As The New York Times reports, the tech giant is apparently “discussing multiyear deals worth at least $50 million and is partnering with Conde Nast, NBC News and IAC (which owns People, The Daily Beast and Better Homes & Gardens ) is in touch with publications like.

Citing people familiar with the discussions, the report said, “Apple has begun talks with major news and publishing organizations in recent weeks about permission to use their content in the development of the company’s generic artificial intelligence systems.” Has been asked for.”

The reaction from publishers appears to be mixed and publishers “could potentially be on the hook for any legal liability that may arise from Apple’s use of their content”.

However, some news executives were “optimistic that Apple’s approach could ultimately lead to a meaningful partnership”. The iPhone maker has apparently been “vague” about the news and its plans for Generative AI.

“Apple A.I. Has been absent from public discussion. Its virtual assistant, Siri, has remained largely stable in the decade since its release,” the report said. Apple declined to comment on the report.

Earlier this month, Apple’s machine learning research team released a framework and model library designed to run on its silicon chips. The company released MLX, a machine learning framework designed for efficient and flexible machine learning on Apple silicon.

“The design of MLX is inspired by frameworks like PyTorch, Jax, and ArrayFire. According to Apple on GitHub, one notable difference from these frameworks and MLX is the unified memory model.

Last month, Apple CEO Tim Cook revealed that the company is investing heavily in AI and will do so responsibly to improve the product over time. Cook said the company views AI and machine learning as fundamental technologies and they are integral to virtually every product they ship. He said that work on AI has been going on in Apple for a long time.
