Arunachal: Hundreds demand justice for minor victim of sexual abuse

TAWANG: Hundreds of people from various walks of life, including members of organizations and NGOs, took to the streets of Tawang on Thursday, demanding justice for an 11-year-old girl who was allegedly sexually assaulted two years ago.
Lumla MLA Tsering Lhamu strongly condemned the incident and demanded a thorough investigation to ensure justice for the victim and her family.
The victim comes from a poor family. Lhamu said, “I will bear all her medical and educational expenses until she turns 18.”
Meanwhile, condemning this heinous act, Tawang ZPM Sonam Nordzin said, “We stand with the victim and her family until justice is served.” She appealed to the administration and contractors to be cautious when bringing in migrant laborers and to ensure that all necessary documents are obtained when applying for Inner Line Permits.
He further stated that, after the work is completed, the contractor, as the local guardian, must decide whether to send the labor back. The alleged sexual exploitation of the minor came to the attention of the Tawang District Police last Tuesday, following which an investigation was launched. However, Nima Yangchen of Lhau village had already filed a complaint on March 23, naming seven people in the case.
So far, three accused have been arrested, identified as Rikap Jyoti Pachani, Suresh Dhakal, and Fajar Ali, while four others are still at large.
The march began at Dungyur Mani in the Old Market and proceeded through the New Market to the Deputy Commissioner’s office.
