Assam: Major Drug Bust Unveils Cross-State Smuggling Operation, Valued at Rs 8 Crore

GUWAHATI: In a major anti-narcotics operation orchestrated by Karimganj Superintendent of Police, Partha Pratim Das, law enforcement successfully intercepted a drug trafficking network, leading to the apprehension of two out-of-state smugglers. The operation, triggered by a timely tip-off received by Superintendent Das, unfolded at New Karimganj station, resulting in the arrest of Sumitra Das and Shafiqul Islam.

Upon thorough examination, authorities discovered concealed contraband on the detainees. Sofiqul and Sumitra were found in possession of 50 packets of Yaba tablets and 15 packets of heroin. Further investigation unveiled their plan to transport these illegal substances from Mizoram to Agartala in Tripura, underscoring the expansive reach of the drug trade.

Simultaneously, another law enforcement effort targeted the Assam-Tripura border at Chudaibari. Here, a truck arriving from Guwahati was intercepted, leading to the confiscation of a staggering 18,000 bottles of ESKUF cough syrup. Despite the successful seizure, the truck driver managed to evade capture. The estimated street value of the intercepted cough syrup amounts to a substantial Rs 3 crore.

Superintendent Partha Pratim Das emphasized the critical role of collaborative efforts in combatting the drug trade. He affirmed, “We are committed to eradicating the menace of narcotics from our region,” highlighting the dedication of law enforcement to maintaining the safety and well-being of the community.

The coordinated crackdown on multiple fronts illustrates the complexity and sophistication of the drug trafficking networks operating across state borders. Superintendent Das’s proactive approach, leveraging intelligence and inter-agency cooperation, underscores the commitment of law enforcement to staying ahead of criminal enterprises.

As communities grapple with the pervasive impact of narcotics, such operations serve as a testament to the resolve of authorities in dismantling these illicit networks. The seized drugs, valued at Rs 8 crore, represent a significant dent in the illegal drug trade, signaling a resolute stance against those seeking to exploit regional boundaries for criminal activities.
