CEO of UK Company suffers heart attack during morning jog, Smartwatch becomes life saviour

London: In a recent episode in the UK, a smartwatch emerged as a life-saving device for Paul Wapham, the CEO of Hockey Wales.

According to media reports, during his morning run near his residence, Wapham suddenly experienced severe chest pain, which was later diagnosed as a heart attack resulting from a complete artery blockage.

Luckily, Wapham used his smartwatch to quickly reach his wife, who promptly rushed him to the hospital. Subsequent medical assessment revealed that he had indeed suffered a heart attack and necessitated a procedure to clear the blocked artery.

Following six days in the coronary unit, Wapham is now convalescing at home and will be participating in an after-care program at the hospital as part of his ongoing rehabilitation.

Wapham expressed his astonishment at the incident, as he had no known risk factors for a heart attack and maintained a healthy lifestyle.

This event underscores the significance of wearable technology like smartwatches, which have demonstrated their potential to save lives by detecting health anomalies through sensors that monitor heart rate, ECG, and more. The swift access to emergency contacts and health monitoring features of smartwatches can play a pivotal role in critical situations, as evidenced in Wapham’s case.
