Katha: In this picture, two round wooden structures are visible on the left, which are called Katha. In olden times, when weighing scales were not in vogue in villages for measuring paddy, paddy was measured with Katha. Generally, four kilos of paddy comes in one Katha. Earlier, paddy was measured in Katha and paid as wages. Khumri: To provide shade for the head, a circular structure made of thin bamboo pieces, painted pink and decorated with cowries is called Khumri. Cowherds who graze the cattle usually wear this on their heads while grazing the cattle. Which provides relief from sun and rain. Earlier, shepherds used to go out to graze the cattle with a kamaara and Khumri. Kamra, which was a thick blanket-like cloth made of jute fibres. This cloth did not let water enter easily during rains. Kamra was used to cover oneself like a raincoat.

Brass Dori: The round-shaped bunch of strings next to Khumri is a string made from the stem of the Kansi plant. It was earlier used as a covering for a cot or a cot. The process of making the string is called Dori Antna. After the initial rainy season, when Kansi plants grow in the field boundaries, then their stems are cut and strings are made. This is used to make cots.

Jhampi: The large round-shaped wooden structure with a lid on the extreme right of the picture is called Jhaampi. In the olden days, it was used as an alternative to a bag or box in Chhattisgarh. It was especially used to keep the groom’s clothes, makeup items, dishes etc. on the occasion of marriage when the baraat was going. It was a strong structure made of bamboo wood, which did not get damaged or destroyed easily for many years.

Kalari: An object with a sharp iron hook on the end of a bamboo stick is called Kalari. It was often used during paddy threshing. It was used to turn the paddy while threshing.
