CMRL gives details of precautionary measures for Northeast Monsoon
Chennai: Ahead of the northeast monsoon, Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) is taking several precautionary measures.
According to the press note, to meet the rain-related challenges, CMRL is working in coordination with the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) to deal with any situation that may arise during crisis management.
The following precautionary measures have been taken:
CMRL has deployed 350 water pumps of various capacities to continuously monitor the rising water level and pump out water from flooded areas.
Additionally, water discharge machines are deployed at metro stations; St. Thomas Mount, Koyambedu, Arignar Anna Alandur Metro, Wimco Nagar and Washermanpet.
Besides this, police personnel have also been deployed to monitor areas where rain water from the elevated track may flow into the tunnel track and prevent anyone from diverting rain water into that area.
Additionally, temporary retaining walls at the station entry points of Saidapet, AGDMS, Government Estate, Anna Nagar East and Anna Nagar Tower metro stations are also intact, the note said.
And, a team has been formed to monitor all the metro stations along with making the helpline number 1860-425-1515 available to the public.
“More than 200 employees are involved in the precautionary measures. Besides, adequate earth bags and water-draining machines have been kept ready to prevent rain water from entering the stations,” the note detailed. Staff and officers have been appointed to monitor all these works.” ,
Also, monitoring officers have been appointed to ensure that there is no damage caused by rain water in the areas where work is being done in the Phase 2 project.
Importantly, eight officers have been deployed on Corridor 3 from Madhavaram Milk Colony to SIPCOT Siruseri, six officers on Corridor 4 from Lighthouse to Poonamallee Bypass and six officers on Corridor 5 from Madhavaram Milk Colony to Sholinganallur.
