
The Indian Army is using modern drones to monitor border areas and forward military posts. Significantly, these surveillance drones are indigenous and developed in India. Chief of the Army Staff, General Upendra Dwivedi, on Tuesday assessed the performance of these drone systems at forward posts in Sikkim. The Chief of Army Staff, General Upendra Dwivedi, visited forward posts of the Black Cat Division on Tuesday. While in Sikkim, the Chief of Army Staff directly assessed the operational preparedness of the troops.
During the visit, he was briefed on various initiatives undertaken to enhance the operational readiness and capabilities of the formation. During his visit to the forward military posts, the Chief of Army Staff also witnessed a demonstration of indigenously developed drone systems. These drone systems, of various categories, are strengthening the operational effectiveness and surveillance capabilities of forward military posts and other areas.
The Army Chief interacted with the soldiers deployed in the difficult and inaccessible mountainous terrain and praised their exceptional professional skills, determination, and dedication. During his visit to Sikkim, Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi also met Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang at his official residence. The meeting was attended by the Commander-in-Charge of the Eastern Army, the General Officer Commanding of the Tri-Shakti Corps, and the General Officer Commanding of the Black Cat Division. After discussions with the Army Chief and other senior military commanders, the Chief Minister stated that the Army Chief’s visit is crucial for the security of Sikkim’s forward areas.
The two discussed in detail issues related to national security, battlefield observation, military-civil fusion, and the welfare of Sikkim’s veterans. The Chief Minister commended the continuous efforts being made by the State Government and the Indian Army in battlefield observation, civil administration, military-civil fusion, and civil defense measures. He expressed his gratitude to the Indian Army for its discipline, dedication, and the vital role it plays in safeguarding the nation’s borders.
It is noteworthy that Defense Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh also recently visited the border areas. From November 15th to 17th, he conducted an extensive tour of the forward areas. The purpose of this visit was to assess the military preparedness, security situation, and progress of infrastructure development projects in the border areas.
He arrived at the forward area in Pithoragarh, where he was given a detailed briefing on operational matters. In Pithoragarh, the Defense Secretary was briefed on key operational issues by the General Officer Commanding, Northern India Area, and the Commander of the 119 (I) Infantry Brigade Group. The briefing included a detailed overview of the current security scenario, operational deployments, logistical support, troop deployment status, and the Army’s preparedness to meet regional security challenges.
