Dalit girl sexually assaulted, youth arrested
Shivamogga (IANS). The Karnataka Police has arrested a youth for allegedly trapping and sexually abusing a Dalit minor girl in Shivamogga district.
The incident took place in Shiralakoppa town and the police have registered a case against the accused youth under relevant sections of the POCSO Act and the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
Police said that the 23-year-old youth trapped the victim and sexually assaulted her for more than a year. The victim’s family came to know about the matter when the girl fell ill and was taken to a doctor. Medical examination also confirmed that the girl was pregnant.
After narrating her ordeal to her parents, they lodged a complaint against the accused for sexually abusing their daughter for a year. Seeing the sensitivity of the matter, the police have arrested the accused. Further investigation is underway.
