Doctor Saheb is in trouble due to tea! Women’s lives put in danger

Nagpur: A startling incident has surfaced at a government hospital in Nagpur, Maharashtra, where a doctor’s frustration over not receiving tea led him to abruptly leave the operating room during surgery. Meanwhile, four patients remained under anesthesia, necessitating the urgent arrival of another doctor from a different hospital to complete the surgeries.

This event occurred on November 3 at a local health center in Mauda tehsil, Nagpur. On that day, eight women were scheduled for sterilization as part of a family planning program. After conducting surgeries on four patients and administering anesthesia to the remaining women, the doctor requested a cup of tea from the hospital staff. When his tea did not arrive promptly, the doctor’s anger prompted him to abandon the surgery and leave the operating theater. The doctor in question is reported to be Tejrang Bhalawi.

Following Dr. Bhalawi’s departure, the hospital administration contacted the District Medical Officer, who promptly dispatched another doctor to complete the surgeries for the unconscious patients. The district administration has initiated an investigation into the matter.

Nagpur Zilla Parishad CEO Soumya Sharma commented on the incident, stating that a three-member committee has been established to probe the issue. Based on the committee’s findings, appropriate action will be taken against the doctor.

Regarding the incident, Sharma explained, “A family planning operation was scheduled at the government hospital in Mauda tehsil on Friday, November 3. Dr. Tejrang Bhalawi of RH Government Hospital in Ramtek tehsil was called to perform the surgeries. He successfully completed four surgeries but left four others unfinished. I was informed of this by a member of the Panchayat Samiti.”

Sharma further added, “I immediately contacted the health officer of Nagpur Zilla Parishad and requested the dispatch of a doctor to complete the remaining surgeries. I was told that he left the operation because he didn’t receive his tea. I have ordered an immediate investigation, and a three-member committee has been formed for this purpose. Appropriate action will be taken once the report is available. This is a very serious matter. If doctors abandon surgeries over such trivial matters like tea, they should be held accountable under Section 304 of the IPC.”
