HMWSSB warns against dumping garbage in manholes

Hyderabad: The HMWSSB has warned residents against using manholes as garbage receptacles and urged them to refrain from dumping garbage in them. They stated that such activities could lead to blockages and related civic problems.
While cleaning clogged manholes in Madhapur, Chanda Naik Tanda, and surrounding areas over the past three days, HMWSSB officials discovered the root cause of the overflows. “For the past two months, reports of sewage overflows have been received in Madhapur Circle, Chanda Naik Tanda, and surrounding areas, where blankets, sheets, clothes, plastic items, and other solid waste were being removed from manholes during de-silting work,” a press release stated on Thursday.
The HMWSSB used high-pressure jetting machines and telescopic hydraulic grabbers to remove silt from the main sewage pipe and restore sewage flow. During the operation, blankets, sheets, clothes, plastic items and other solid waste were removed from the manhole, an official said.
