Hurt by the abandonment, BRS may not attend the Plenary Session this year
Hyderabad: With the party out of power and it being an election year, BRS is unlikely to hold its plenary meeting this year, although leaders said the party may hold the next plenary meeting only after changing the name of the party to TRS.
The BRS holds its annual plenary meeting and a large public meeting on 27 April to mark the party’s foundation day. However, party leaders said the party might not hold a plenary session this year due to the Lok Sabha elections, during which party leaders would be busy campaigning. Party leaders usually discuss development work and welfare measures taken by the government during the day-long meeting.

However, with the change of power in the state and many leaders leaving the party, leaders feel that the full session will not be held this time. In recent times, three sitting MLAs and several other MPs have left the party and joined BJP and Congress. A senior BRS leader said, “At present, party leaders are busy with the Lok Sabha election campaign and it would be difficult to ask leaders to come to the city to attend the meeting.”
Party chief K Chandrashekhar Rao had changed the name of the party from TRS to BRS two years ago on the occasion of Dussehra on October 5. After the defeat in the assembly elections, party leaders have been demanding to take back the old name of TRS. In several party meetings, party leaders and workers wanted the BRS chief to reconsider changing the name of the party to TRS. “There are sentiments attached to TRS and suggestions have come from the cadre. The party will take a decision after the Lok Sabha elections,” the BRS leader said.
The party had earlier canceled plenary meetings in the years 2020 and 2021 due to the Covid pandemic impact. During the last year, the Plenary Session and 20th Foundation Day of the party were held at HICC, Hyderabad with limited membership.
