Hyderabad: Elderly man dies after falling into lift pit in Tukaramgate

Hyderabad: In a tragic incident, an elderly man died after slipping and falling into a lift pit at Addagutta in Tukaramgate on Tuesday afternoon. The victim was identified as D.V. Venkat Narasaiah (68), a resident of Boduppal, who had come to his relative’s house to attend a memorial service at an apartment complex when the incident occurred. According to the police, Venkat Narasaiah, who failed to notice the lift compartment not coming, opened the door and went inside. “It is suspected that he fell into the pit from a height and was seriously injured. To add to the misery, the lift compartment also came down rapidly and fell on him, leading to his death,” said a police officer from Tukaramgate. His family members and relatives, when they realised he was missing, searched for him in the apartment and later found him dead in the lift shaft. The Tukaramgate police are investigating. The body was sent to the Gandhi Hospital mortuary for post-mortem.
