Karnataka: 17th century statue of Mahasati found in Kampli
Ballari: A 17th century Vijayanagara Empire-era idol of Mahasati was found recently while carrying out agricultural work on the outskirts of Kampali town. According to historians, this statue belongs to the Vijayanagara period. Officials of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) visited the site.
The statue depicts a woman holding a weapon. Another woman is also seen standing.
The eyes of the farmers fell on the stone statue. He cleaned it and informed the concerned authorities. Immediately the officers reached the spot with the ASI team and took him with them. Sharanbasappa Kulkar, a researcher and historian, confirmed the discovery of the idol.
“The statue looks like a woman celebrating with another man with arms open and one of her arms is damaged.
“We will conduct carbon dating tests to get an accurate picture.”
