Karnataka should adopt Kannada as main language: CM Siddaramaiah

Raichur: Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah suggested that Karnataka should become completely Kannada. He said Karnataka’s land, water, culture and language should be Kannada. “All people living here are Kannadigas. Irrespective of the language they speak at home, the language should be Kannada and Kannada should be the main language,” the chief minister said. Siddaramaiah was speaking after inaugurating ‘Gokak Aandolan: Retrospect and Preview’ as part of Karnataka Sambhrama-50 organised by the Department of Kannada and Culture, Kannada Development Authority and Raichur District Administration at the campus of the Agricultural University in Raichur on Saturday. “As a result of the Gokak Aandolan, Kannada Kavalu Samiti was formed to spread Kannada atmosphere in the state. Later, this committee became Kannada Development Authority. Learn any language, but the official language should be Kannada,” the chief minister elaborated. Siddu to release book on Ugrappa

Bengaluru: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will release a book on his close aide and former MP V S Ugrappa at Kondajji Basappa Hall on Palace Road at 5 pm on Sunday.

Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar, noted litterateur Professor Baraguru Ramachandrappa and former minister P G R Scindia will be the chief guests. Gulbarga University Vice Chancellor Dr Dayananda Agasara will also be present.

The book ‘Samartha Jana Nayak V S Ugrappa’ is co-authored by Dr Veereshnayak Baylamarched and his mentor from Gulbarga University Dr G Sriramulu. The book describes the life history of Ugrappa, including his childhood, imprisonment during the Emergency and his speeches as an MLC in the Legislative Council and as an MP in Parliament on various policy issues.
