Karupothula Revanth Goud Seeks NHRC Probe Into Siddipet Farmer’s Death
It is known that a farmer named Ramakrishnaiah (55) died of a heart attack at the Collectorate on August 21 after the government took away his two acres of land as part of the construction of the Kaleshwaram Project canal. Last year, he went to the Siddipet Collectorate to seek compensation of Rs 29 lakh for the land. The officials did not respond properly.
In this context, Hyderabad-based lawyer and social activist Karupothula Revanth Goud has filed a complaint with the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) demanding a full investigation into the farmer’s death and action against those responsible. He also demanded that justice be done by paying compensation to the victim’s family members. He also said that the compensation should be provided quickly without causing any inconvenience to other farmers across the state who have been waiting for land compensation for days, and that the victims should not be neglected in government offices and that they should be given due respect based on their age.
The National Human Rights Commission, which took up the investigation into this complaint, has ordered the Telangana Chief Secretary to immediately conduct an inquiry into the incident of the farmer’s death and submit a full report on the action taken against those responsible, the compensation received by the victim’s family, and the incident to the commission within four weeks.
