Kerala HC stays trial against staff members of Rahul Gandhi’s Wayanad office in vandalism case

Kochi: The Kerala High Court has stayed the trial proceedings against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s office staff in Wayanad for allegedly damaging a portrait of Mahatma Gandhi kept inside the office.
Justice Raja Vijayaraghavan issued an interim order staying the proceedings in a local court against four staff members of Rahul Gandhi in the case registered last year.
In June last year, the CPI(M)’s student wing had allegedly ransacked the office during a protest and a case was subsequently registered on the basis of a complaint filed by a lawyer, who claimed that unidentified The picture of Mahatma Gandhi was damaged by the persons. ,
The ruling CPI(M) in Kerala alleged that it was Rahul Gandhi’s personal staff who vandalized Mahatma Gandhi’s portrait to pin the blame on SFI activists.
The court also issued notice to the complainant in the case registered in 2022 in its order dated 13 July.
The petitioners claimed that they were added as accused, and a final report was filed by the police. Advocate T Asif Ali, appearing for the petitioners, said that no witness has given any role to the four staff members in damaging the portrait of Mahatma Gandhi in the office.
The alleged incident came to light when SFI’s protest march against the Congress leader turned violent.
