Leopard attacked cowshed, killed 3 calves

Khetiya : On the intervening night of Sunday-Monday, three calves were killed by a leopard in Shri Krishna Gaushala in Nisarpur village near Khetiya in Barwani district. The owner, Santosh Chaitanya Maharaj immediately informed the officials and administration of Sri Krishna Go Sansthan. President Mahendra Saner, Secretary Vikas Rao Shitole, Pramod Gujar from the Forest Department and Assistant Veterinarian Sunil Khanna conducted the joint inspection.

After reaching the spot, the officials conducted a thorough inspection and after completing the necessary documents in the presence of Swami Santosh Chaitanya, informed the authorities about the incident. Expressing concern, he stressed that the Gaushala has been running smoothly for almost 25 years, this is the first such incident.

Wildlife attacks, especially by leopards, are on the rise in the region. The managing committee of the cowshed, Mahendra Saner and Vikas Rao Shitole, called for increased security measures, including installing cages to catch the elusive leopard responsible for the recent tragedy.

Several incidents were reported in the past

Khetiya and its surrounding rural areas have seen several leopard incidents in the past, with the forest department using cage traps to catch the elusive predators. Recently, leopards targeted goats near Bhadgon village and a girl became the victim of the attack.

Urgent action has been called for to address the growing threat of wild animals encroaching into populated areas, ensuring the safety of both livestock and citizens.
