Maharashtra: Class 8 boy injured in attack by classmate, accused detained

Mumbai: A 14-year-old Class VIII student suffered injuries after he was allegedly attacked with a sharp object by a fellow student inside a school classroom in Maharashtra’s Sangli district, a police officer said on Tuesday.

He said the incident took place on Monday evening and preliminary investigation revealed that it was the result of a previous dispute between two classmates.

The accused and the victim, who are residents of 100 Feet Road area in Sangli, had frequent fights over small issues and had also had an argument two days ago, the officer said.

On Monday, the accused boy had carried a sharp object, possibly a small knife, in his school bag.

Around 5.30 pm, he allegedly attacked his classmate with a sharp object while he was sitting on a bench.

The victim suffered serious injuries on his neck and hands, the officer said.

The school administration immediately took the injured child to a private hospital for treatment.

The boy was given stitches for the wound.

Sangli City Police Station Inspector Sanjay More said, he is undergoing treatment at the hospital and his condition is stable.

“We have detained the 15-year-old student who attacked the boy after registering an FIR under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, including 307 (attempt to murder).

Further investigation is underway,” the officer said.
