Man stabs 5 people in residential building, 2 dead
Mumbai, (IANS) | A man stabbed five people in a residential building in Mumbai on Friday, killing two of them. The assailant has been identified as 54-year-old Chetan Gala, who was arrested after the massacre which took place around 3.30 pm, has spread panic in the area.
According to officials of the Dr DB Marg police station, the incident took place in the residential area of Grant Road, Parvati Mansion building, where there were old-style common roads. Locals who shot the video showed Gala running to a man on the second floor of the building and repeatedly stabbing him until he collapsed in a pool of blood.
He then went to the first floor where another man was descending the stairs and the crowd below warned him to run away, the assailant coming after him. Two other scared residents nearby can be seen running away with the people gathered below, shouting at the assailant.
The exact motive behind the serial killing is not clear and the police have registered an FIR and are probing further. The injured were taken to Sir HN Reliance Foundation Hospital and the nearby BMC’s Nair Hospital, where the condition of two is said to be critical.
Police said the accused Gala suddenly came out brandishing a knife and started attacking people at random, targeting at least five. Horrified locals called the police and the team reached there, and were soon able to overpower him.
