Raigarh (Maharashtra): At least 5 people were injured and 10 others were trapped in a massive fire that broke out following an explosion at a pharmaceutical factory in Maharashtra’s Mahad MIDC on Friday. The officers provided this information.
“There was a loud explosion around 11 am and then a plume of smoke was seen rising from the factory premises of Bluejet Healthcare Limited,” an official of Mahad MIDC police station said.
At least four fire engines and police teams rushed to the spot to control the fire and at least five injured victims were pulled out.
Another 10 people are still feared trapped in the burning complex, where more than four dozen employees were on duty on Friday, though police in Navi Mumbai and company officials declined to comment on the incident. An eyewitness said that according to initial reports, a suspected gas leak may have caused the explosion and fire, which caused chaos and the flames started spreading to other units within the factory complex.
Of the five injured, the condition of two is stable and the condition of three others is said to be critical and they are being treated at Mahad Rural Hospital.
