‘Most appropriate’ tribute to Bapu will be to defeat BJP in 2024: Kharge

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Sunday stressed on the challenges ahead and said these are existential concerns for democracy and our aim should be to defeat the BJP in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections which marks 100 years of Mahatma Gandhi becoming the Congress President. .

He said the most appropriate tribute to Mahatma Gandhi would be to oust the BJP from power in 2024.

On the second day of the Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting being held here, Kharge said, “We are all aware of the challenges that lie ahead. These challenges are not just of the Congress, but they concern the survival of Indian democracy and the protection of the Indian Constitution.” Is about.”

Criticizing the BJP government at the Centre, Kharge said that during the meeting of India Bloc leaders in Mumbai, Maharashtra, the government formed a committee on ‘One Nation, One Election’.

“For his agenda, he broke all traditions and appointed former President Ram Nath Kovind as the chairman of the committee,” he alleged.

He said that this government is known for taking such steps which make no sense.

The Congress leader also highlighted that the Congress had laid the foundation of the Constitution, and “thus it is our duty to protect the Constitution” and we have to fight till our last breath.

“Our aim should be to defeat the BJP in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and work diligently to form an alternative government in the country. Next year also marks the centenary of Mahatma Gandhi’s election as Congress President and oust the BJP from power in 2024. Doing so would be the most fitting tribute to Mahatma Gandhi.”

He also said that before the crucial Lok Sabha elections, assembly elections are also to be held in five states later this year. Therefore, the party should also be prepared for possible assembly elections in all these states and Jammu and Kashmir.

Highlighting the work of the Congress-led government in Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan, Kharge said that both the state governments have introduced a new model of social justice and welfarism.

“We should publicize these welfare schemes across the country,” he said.

He also asked the state presidents and legislature party leaders present in the CWC whether they have formed their committees at the block and district level and whether they are organizing programs at regular intervals and whether they have started identifying potential candidates. Is.

He warned the party leaders that this is not the time for us to relax.

He said, “In the last 10 years under BJP rule, the challenges faced by the common people have increased manifold. The Prime Minister (Narendra Modi) refuses to address the concerns of the poor, farmers, labourers, women and youth and its Instead, he cannot see beyond himself “In such circumstances we cannot remain mute spectators. We have to unite and overthrow this dictatorial government to save our democracy.”

He also highlighted the party’s victory in Karnataka and Himachal Pradesh and said that people are looking for an alternative and our victory in the assembly elections in both the states is a clear proof of this.

The Congress chief said, “We must work tirelessly keeping aside personal interests. We must put aside our personal differences and give priority to the success of the party. We must exercise self-restraint and refrain from making statements in the media against our leaders or the party. Should be avoided so that the interests of the party are protected and no loss occurs.

He stressed on organizational unity and said that it is most important. “Only through unity and discipline can we defeat our opponents. This was evident in Karnataka, where we remained united and fought with discipline to achieve success,” he said.

He said that we will go from Telangana with new strength and a clear message. “We are leaving Hyderabad today with a firm commitment to win not only in Telangana but in all the coming elections and provide relief to the people from the miseries of BJP’s misrule,” he said.

The two-day CWC is being held under the chairmanship of Congress President in the presence of other senior Congress leaders including Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, P Chidambaram, Ambika Soni, Salman Khurshid, Anand Sharma.
