MP: Cyber cell busts online betting network, 6 arrested
Dhar: In a major breakthrough to curb online betting and cyber crime, the Cyber Cell of Dhar Police arrested six people involved in online betting through mobile applications.
The arrests were made after a thorough investigation by the cyber cell, which was monitoring suspicious activities on various online platforms.
Preliminary interrogation revealed that the accused were managing a complex network in Dhar, Indore, Mumbai and various areas of Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra. The network was involved in illegal betting and other cyber crimes, raising concerns over the security of the online platform.
Those arrested include 33-year-old Ravi Rathod, resident of Nalchha Darwaja, Dhar, 29-year-old Umar Hussain, 29-year-old resident of Bhaji Bazaar, Dhar, 30-year-old Salman Khan, 34-year-old Sarwar Khan, 26-year-old Sahil Shaikh and 36-year-old Arif Khan. , all residents of Dhar. Police recovered nine expensive mobile phones and Rs 34,430 in cash.
The kingpin of the entire gambling den, Nalcha Darwaja resident Ravi Rathore of Dhar is operating online betting on commission basis by making an ID in the town.
Of the six arrested accused, three had been arrested about six months ago for operating online betting. During preliminary interrogation, Ravi Rathod confessed that he had prepared IDs of many people in the town and was operating online betting on commission basis.
Notably, after receiving several complaints regarding online betting in the city, SP Manoj Kumar Singh formed a special team and also included the cyber cell.
On Wednesday, the team has received secret information about six people including Ravi Rathod and their illegal betting activities.
The police swung into action and raided his hideout and caught him red handed. During initial investigation, police found a mobile app in his cell phone. Based on the information given by him, the police arrested five other members of the gang. The police booked everyone under Section 4(A) of the Public Gambling (Madhya Pradesh) Act, 1976.
