Panchkula: After two weeks, diarrhea cases in Budanpur increased to 460

Panchkula: Two weeks after the outbreak of diarrhoea in Budanpur village of Panchkula, 460 cases have been reported so far. One person has died in the area, while several people from the village are admitted in hospitals in Chandigarh. The district administration now wants to focus on spreading awareness about the disease and related activities. DC Dr. Yash Garg today held a review meeting with the district health department, Haryana Urban Development Authority (HSVP) and other officials regarding the spread of diarrhoea. DC Garg said that people of Budanpur, Indira Colony and Rajiv Colony should be made aware about drinking water after boiling it. “Awareness programmes should be run. Advisories should be issued about precautions,” he said. He also said that the departments should collect samples of water being supplied in the area. While the health department has claimed that diarrhoea cases are being reported due to contamination of the drinking water being supplied in the area, the HSVP has clearly stated that the drinking water being provided by them in the area is clean. Officials said that drinking water gets contaminated due to rusting of water in the properties of residents and damage to the supply pipes.

According to information received from the department, the number of diarrhea cases in the village has gone up to 460. Eight new cases were reported on Wednesday alone. Health department officials said that 12 out of 20 water samples collected failed the quality test. During the meeting, the DC also directed the Municipal Corporation Panchkula to conduct a cleanliness drive in the area. The DC said, “Dirty water should not accumulate at any place in the area, besides there should be no garbage or organic waste. Fogging should be done in the entire area.” Meanwhile, cases of dengue and malaria have started coming up in Panchkula. Health department officials said that two cases of dengue have been reported in Panchkula in the last few days. He said, “Kalka is a high-risk area in terms of dengue.
