Jalandhar: In a tragic incident, three laborers lost their lives when a heavy crate of tools kept on an upper shelf of a factory fell on them while they were working at the unit premises near Dhogri Road here today. The incident occurred this evening at Mech Choice Tools. Eyewitnesses said that the rack on which the tools were kept apparently could not bear the weight and collapsed, giving no one a chance to react or save themselves. Jyoti Prakash Shur, Managing Director of Vishal Tools and Forgings, declined to comment on the incident.
He said, “I am out on a tour and will return tomorrow. I will be able to comment on the incident only after reaching the factory and seeing things for myself.” The injured were immediately rushed to Fortis Hospital on Pathankot Road for treatment. The condition of two of the injured is said to be critical. Confirming the incident, Jalandhar (Rural) SSP Harwinder Singh Virk said, “Three people, including a woman, have died in this incident. Four to five others have been injured by the weight of the tools. The pillar of the rack could not bear the weight of the tools. The entire structure, along with the heavy tools, collapsed.” The deceased woman laborer has been identified as Simmi, who had joined the factory just 10 days ago to earn a livelihood.
